THE Flintmobile – family runabout driven by stone age cartoon character Fred Flintsone – is set to line up with dozens of other classic cars in Newton Abbot this Saturday.
The town centre was already gearing up to host more than 40 cherished vehicles as part of the first classic gathering since the pandemic.
Then the billing took an ever better turn when A-Plan Insurance, whose doors will open to the public for the first time in Courtenay Street on Saturday, announced they would be showing off Fred’s motor as part of their celebrations.
Also promised is a walkabout by some of the caveman’s loveable pet dinosaurs whose antics will complement the live period jazz from the 1930s - 1950s provided by The Liberty Sisters and their vintage American pick-up truck, Buttercup.
A delighted Town Development Manager, Sally Henley, said: ‘We have watched the premises being renovated over several months and so I am particularly pleased that the branch opening will coincide with the return of our classic car show.
‘I will be accompanying the Mayor of Newton Abbot when she visits the new branch and I wish Amanda Valance and her team at A-Plan every success with their new venture.’
The gathering of cherished vehicles is due to take place in Courtenay Street, Wolborough Street and Bank Street on Saturday October 1, 10am - 4pm with no entry fee or tickets to book.
While Sally has ben responsible for arranging the music, Alan Perring of Teignbridge Classics has been in charge of encouraging drivers to bring their much-loved motors into town.
‘Teignbridge Classics are delighted to bring together owners of classic and modern classic cars for the people of Newton Abbot to see and enjoy the memories they bring back from all our childhoods and youth,’ he said.
‘Enjoy chatting to the owners and getting a close up view of these fantastic vehicles from days gone by.’
All 45 vehicle slots have now been allocated meaning no classic car drivers can turn up on the day hoping to take part.
