EIGHT drivers received warnings from the police following a ‘car meet’ under Newton Abbot’s multi-storey car park last night (Wednesday)
On their Facebook page Newton Abbot police report: ‘Following reports of a car meet this evening under the multi-storey car park, officers have attended and dealt with eight different drivers who have all been issued with s59 warnings.’
This is an s59 Police Reform Act 2002 warning.
‘The warning is placed against both the driver and the vehicle and lasts for 12 months.
‘They are issued when a vehicle is being or has been used in a manner which is likely to cause harassment alarm or distress or annoyance to members of the public and driven in a careless or inconsiderate manner.
‘If the driver of the vehicle or the vehicle with the warning issued to it is then seen driving in any of those conditions again in the next 12 months the vehicle can be seized and, if not collected after paying for recovery and storage costs, it could be sold on or crushed.’
