CHILDREN and staff have celebrated Bishopsteignton Primary School’s 50th anniversary.
It has been a half century since the main school building in the village was open and the event was marked for current pupils as well as those who have been involved in the school community since it opened in 1973.
Headteacher Dave Killoran, said: ‘Being an active part of our special community is a very important part of life at Bishop.
‘To mark this important anniversary, we therefore wanted to celebrate this event in different ways with various people throughout the village who are connected to the school or have been in the past.’
Bishopsteignton Art Group worked alongside pupils to create a unique commemorative display celebrating the 50 years of the school which will be placed in the main building and enjoyed for many years.
Former pupils and staff members were then invited for a tour of the school and presentation led by the Bishopsteignton Heritage group.
During the tour, pupils completed activities linked to the anniversary that supported their reflection on what had changed in the last 50 years and how many other children had enjoyed being part of this special school community.
The event culminated in a picture on the school playground with staff and pupils making a giant figure 50.
