VOLUNTEERS keeping Dawlish clean have received a welcome boost.
Dawlish Against Plastic has been handed a £500 donation from a housebuilding firm to help keep Dawlish beaches clean.
Formed in 2019, Dawlish Against Plastic established regular beach cleans across the town and to reduce plastic waste.
Since March 2019, the group has removed more than 725kg of waste from local beaches.
Now the organisation has received £500 from Taylor Wimpey which is building new homes in Dawlish.
The £500 donation will go towards volunteer costs and the groups’ regular activities around town to try and encourage people to recycle and understand more about how to live sustainably.
They will use the money to run a variety of community events and feedback useful data to other climate groups and Dawlish Council, to better the local area's recycling capabilities and to promote sustainable living.
As well as the cash, Taylor Wimpey sales manager
Samantha Lillington, volunteered her time to help with a litter beach clean last year, and again this year.
Vanessa Ryley, member of Dawlish Against Plastic, said: ‘We are very grateful for Taylor Wimpey's donation which we will use to support and promote our local events, and to buy new equipment and resources for our activities.
‘Our thanks also go to Samantha from Taylor Wimpey for joining us at our recent beach cleans.’
Emma Smith, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Exeter, said: ‘We are delighted to be supporting Dawlish Against Plastic for their beach clean-ups with a donation and providing volunteers to help the group with their incredibly important work.
‘We are glad to be a part of the wider sustainability discussion to keep the wider Dawlish community clean.
‘We hope others in the community can step forward to continue the impressive work carried out by the group, and provide year-round volunteers.’
