A FUNDRAISING campaign has been launched to bring back a headline act for Dawlish Celebrates Carnival parade.
The Go Fund Me target is £2,000 as the carnival team have raised half the funds to bring back the illuminated performance team Spark.
Last in Dawlish in 2019, the carnival team hope they can make a return to make sure carnival week ends with a rousing parade.
Spark last appeared in Dawlish in 2019 with a display of live music and illuminated drums.
This year’s Dawlish Celebrates Carnival theme is musicals.
The carnival kicks off on Saturday August 12 and the grand finale parade will be on Friday August 18.
The much-loved parade through Dawlish made a return in 2022 following Covid restrictions, and this year the volunteer team who run the week-long event want to make sure the parade is a spectacle.
Now, the parade is a community parade involving local groups and organisations as well as an added ‘wow’ factor.
A spokesman said: ‘This year will be a community parade again and we still want as many people, groups and organisations as possible to take part.
'We won’t be judging entries but giving rosettes to all those who take part in the parade.
'But we’d like to have one big headline act to wow people and keep our community parade unique.
‘We’re fundraising to have Spark! in 2023 - to take part in the parade and do a fantastic display on the Lawn after the Parade to bring lots of fun.’
The Go Fund Me campaign is aiming to raise £2,000 towards the cost.
