Cllr Jackie Hook, said ‘The Future HIgh Street Fund projects are delivering on proposals contained in the Newton Abbot Community Plan. Reviving the market, a new cinema and a more pedestrian friendly Queen Street were key community demands.

‘However, it is right that we continually review, the component projects and their financial viability and remain flexible to ongoing community wishes, especially since the council has now been asked to borrow more money to support the cinema project.

‘We have asked for expert consultants to look into the future for the night-time economy and assess the viability of the cinema.

‘We now have these assessments back and we need to focus now, as always, on making the best decisions for the future of Newton Abbot and its residents .’
