A MUCH-LOVED free event is set to return to Newton Abbot with the news that the first classic car gathering is to take place in the town centre since the pandemic.

The gathering of cherished vehicles is due to take place in Courtenay Street, Wolborough Street and Bank Street on Saturday, October 1, from 10am to 4pm with no entry fee or tickets to book.

It is expected to attract models and marques from across the decades, providing something for motoring fans of all ages.

Previous classic car shows have proved to be a huge hit, drawing in crowds eager to check out the gleaming chrome and polished paintwork.

And once again, live period jazz from the 1930s - 1950s will be provided by The Liberty Sisters whose vintage American pick-up truck, Buttercup, is an attraction in its own right.

The setting, right in the heart of town, provides a festival atmosphere for shoppers and offers a welcome boost to traders.

Town Development Manager Sally Henley from Newton Abbot Town Council has worked hard to make the event happen.

‘So many people have asked me when the next car show was going to be and I’ve been disappointed not to be able to provide a date over the past couple of years,’ she said.

‘However, I was overjoyed to hear from Alan Perring and Jamie Theobald at Teignbridge Classics who were keen to make it happen.

‘We have pulled out all the stops and there will be a show on Saturday October 1 this year, with a view to putting on two shows next year.

‘I am thrilled that The Liberty Sisters will be joining us this year as they provide not only superb music but a fantastic visual spectacle too.’

Alan Perring, of Teignbridge Classics, said: ‘Teignbridge Classics are delighted to bring together owners of classic and modern classic cars for the people of Newton Abbot to see and enjoy the memories they bring back from all our childhoods and youth.

‘Enjoy chatting to the owners and getting a close up view of these fantastic vehicles from days gone by.’
