A FIVE-YEAR-OLD child has been severely injured at a Teignbridge tourist attraction.
Members of Dartmoor Search and Rescue from Ashburton were alerted by paramedics to Becky Falls near Manaton where the child was reported to have been hurt.
The search and rescue team helped ambulance crews with the incident which happened at 12.25pm on Sunday.
No details have been given about the nature of the incident or the extent of the child’s injuries.
Dartmoor Search and Rescue said 17 of its volunteers were involved and were eventually stood down about an hour later.
The young child was transferred to hospital in Bristol by air ambulance.
Becky Falls declined to comment on the incident when contacted.
A spokesman for the search and rescue team said: ‘The team were contacted by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust at 12.24pm to provide assistance with a severely injured five-year-old child at Becky Falls tourist attraction near Bovey Tracey.
‘One of our team doctors was nearby and made his way directly to the location.
‘Initial team members arriving at the location also offered assistance to the paramedics on site.
‘The casualty was transferred by air ambulance to hospital in Bristol.’
Originally called Becka Falls, the site is run as a tourist attraction centred on the waterfall itself which is 70ft high and more than 35 ft wide in parts.
As well as the falls, there is now a woodland park with features including a children’s zoo, woodland trail and crafts.
